If you've priced a bathroom remodel cost Austin TX job elsewhere and the number seemed low, ask whether membrane waterproofing is actually in it. We price per bathroom in three scope tiers, and the membrane is in every tier, not an upgrade line.
Why the membrane goes in before a single tile.
Grout and tile alone aren't waterproof. Water moves through both over time, and what stops it from reaching the wall framing or subfloor is a continuous waterproofing membrane behind every tiled wall and under every tiled floor, tied into the drain and up the wall past the highest point water can reach in a shower.
We check the membrane for continuous coverage and a clean tie-in at every seam, curb and drain before the first tile goes up. A pinhole in the membrane behind a tub surround doesn't show up for a year, and by then it's a subfloor problem, not a grout problem. That inspection step doesn't change by fixture tier.
Three fixture tiers, one waterproofing standard.
The tier changes fixtures, tile extent and layout complexity. It never changes whether the membrane goes in.

Layout changes that relocate a drain or supply line push toward the high-end tier because they add a licensed plumber's scope, not because the tile itself costs more. That plumbing line is named separately on the estimate.

- Ventilation fan wiring or a new circuit — licensed electrician, named on the estimate
- Structural floor repair beyond patching, if the subfloor is compromised past code minimums

Why does every tile job get a waterproofing membrane?
Grout and tile aren't waterproof on their own. A continuous membrane behind the tile and under the floor is what actually keeps water out of the wall and subfloor, and we run it on every job regardless of tier or budget.
How is a bathroom remodel priced without a flat rate?
Per bathroom, in the three scope tiers above, set by fixtures, tile extent and layout changes. Moving a drain or supply line changes the tier because it adds a plumber's scope, not because we're marking the job up.
Do you move plumbing to change a bathroom layout?
We coordinate the framing and finish work around it, but supply line and drain relocation is done by a licensed plumber, named on the estimate rather than folded into our number.
How long does a typical bathroom remodel take?
Seven to fifteen working days depending on tier, once fixtures and tile are on site. A layout change that moves plumbing runs toward the longer end of that range.
